Entry rules for AI-made films

A register of the entry rules of 25 festivals, competitions and awards that take AI-made films or say how they treat them, read on each organiser's own rules: the AI rule, tool disclosure, running time, cost, deadline, screening, rights and prizes, with a calendar of dates. As of 2026-09-25.

1The season ahead

Every date still to come in the rules read, month by month, from the reading day on: 19 in all, deadlines and festival days together. Past dates and the months without a day are on the calendar.

2The line-up

One card per festival, in alphabetical order. The eight marks under each name follow the order of every festival page, AI use, tool disclosure, running time, fee, deadline, screening, rights and prizes, and are filled where the organiser's rules cover the item. The line at the foot is the deadline as it stood on the reading day.

Inclusion rule. The 25 festivals on the register; an item counts when the organiser's rules state it. Order. The order rules take on every festival page.

4Why read the rules first

An AI film that suits one festival can be ineligible at the next. One asks for generative video, another for three tools including one for images, another for AI in every phase of production, and a fourth for a film made on a single platform. Running times run from a 60-second cap to features.

The rules also differ on what they ask afterwards: a list of the tools used, a production file, proof of consent for every face and voice, and a licence for the organiser to show the film.

5What the register finds

African AI Film Festival, AI Cinema Festival NYC, AI Film Festival Japan, Astana AI Film Festival, Bochnia International AI Film Festival, Chroma Awards, Reply AI Film Festival, Runway Gen:48, Sundance Film Festival, World AI Film Festival and World AI Film Festival USA ask entrants to say how AI was used or which tools they used. Astana AI Film Festival, Chroma Awards, Higgsfield Global Film Festival, Reply AI Film Festival, Runway AI Festival and Runway Gen:48 state that entry is free. On the reading day, African AI Film Festival, AI Cinema Festival NYC, AI for Good Film Festival, Artefact AI Film Festival, Turkey International AI Film Festival and World AI Film Festival USA still took entries.

Every reading is quoted from the organiser's rules and dated. Rules change each edition; the organiser's current page always governs.

7The making side of an entry

For an entrant reading “AIShortFilmHub”, this is what SceneMixer publishes about the film its pipeline hands over:

Every new video carries the SceneMixer AIGC badge in its bottom-right corner unless you turn it off.

The music runs across the end card and comes to an end with the film.
