Grant of licence: what the organiser may do
A grant of licence is the permission an entrant gives the organiser to screen, copy or promote the film. The entrant usually keeps the copyright. From 4 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Higgsfield's rules state that copyright stays with the author and then grant Higgsfield a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence covering festival and product marketing. The AI for Good Film Festival asks for permission to use the film for festival promotion, with credit.
WAIFF in Cannes says candidates keep full copyright and grant the festival and its partners rights to show the work. Runway's rules have entrants confirm they can grant Runway the rights to use the film.
Two words deserve attention: perpetual, meaning with no end date, and product marketing, meaning use in advertising for the organiser's own tools.
A licence to promote the festival is common; a licence to market a product is a larger grant.

The product image is always redrawn from your original photo so it stays your product.
