Runway's Gen:48 is a 48-hour challenge rather than a festival: the 2025 window opened on August 23 and closed on August 25. Entries run 1 to 4 minutes, at least 75% of the running time must be generated with Runway's video tools, and each comes with a short written description of the AI techniques used. Entry is free. Finalists went to a public vote online for a People's Choice prize while a jury picked the Grand Prix, which carried $5,000 in cash plus Runway credits. Entrants grant Runway a non-exclusive, perpetual licence to the film.
